Reconstructive surgery

 

Reconstructive Surgery (also called Reconstructive Surgery) is a specific branch within the plastic surgery in general. It is performed on abnormal structures of the body caused by congenital, developmental or growth, trauma, infection, tumors or disease. It can be performed to improve function or also to improve physical appearance.

 

The main goal of reconstructive surgery is to restore or improve function and appearance in various injuries.

 

Differences between cosmetic surgery and reconstructive surgery

 

Cosmetic surgery and restorative or reconstructive surgery are parts of plastic surgery. Cosmetic surgery is performed to improve the normal body structures intended to enhance or improve the attractiveness of the patient and thus raise their self-esteem and only plastic surgeons are officially guaranteed to perform cosmetic surgery.

 

Aims to repair and rebuild, restore by surgical techniques, form and function of the affected area, and external parties abnormal structures of the body that causes congenital, developmental or growth or because of scars, trauma, burns, tumors or surgeries, are distorted or lost partially or completely.

 

Where applicable reconstructive surgery?

 

  • In complicated fractures of the craniofacial skeleton
  • Congenital malformations of the craniofacial skeleton and face (lips and palate)
  • In reconstruction of the skin and nerve structures of the face
  • In bedsores
  • Varicose ulcers
  • In direct fire burns, scalding, electrical, chemical, freeze.
  • In soft tissue reconstruction from previous fractures or during orthopedic surgery
  • In hand surgery: post-traumatic reconstruction, reimplantation, correction of congenital defects and degenerative diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.

 

Risks

 

As with all surgical procedures , there are certain risks and complications involved in any such procedure . Infection is one of the major complications that a patient may experience Procedures that require large incisions are prone to infection, depending on patient physiology, diligence as to take prescribed medication to combat it and the environment in which the patient is recovering . Bruising and swelling are common risks. Excessive inflammation and the appearance of numerous bruises may indicate a more serious problem and must be immediately brought to the attention of your doctor.
