GYnecomastia

 

Men who have developed a hypertrophy (increase) in their breasts may experience a number of problems, mainly because aesthetics. There are surgical procedures to improve the appearance of the breasts, including, among other alternatives, subcutaneous mastectomy (removal of the entire breast glandular tissue) and liposuction (suction of fatty breast tissue level).

 

The best candidates for the procedure patients are mature enough to understand the procedure and have realistic expectations about the outcome. There are several different surgical techniques to reduce and shape the breasts. There are both risks and complications associated with the surgical procedure.

 

Alternative Treatments

 

Surgical treatment of gynecomastia is an elective surgery. Alternative treatment would consist of not carrying out the intervention. In selected patients it can be made only liposuction to reduce breast size, while other cases require a subcutaneous mastectomy, or a combination of both procedures. Your plastic surgeon will advise on alternative in their best judgment applies to you, for you to assess. Risks and potential complications associated with all forms of surgical treatment.

 

Risks

 

Consultation with the anesthesiologist and the surgeon, and the preoperative examinations allow us to anticipate risks and complications of an intervention of gynecomastia.

Post operative care

 

  • A responsible adult must drive you home after surgery and provide support for 1-2 days.
  • Get enough rest.
  • Eat a balanced diet.
  • Lower activity levels can cause constipation. Be sure to increase fluid intake.
  • Take pain medication as directed. Avoid aspirin or any product that contains it.
  • Do not drink alcohol when taking pain medicine.
  • Although not ingest drugs avoid alcohol for 3 weeks, this can cause fluid retention.
  • Do not smoke. The cigarette slows healing and increases the risk of complications.
  • Start walking as soon as possible, this reduces swelling and decreases the chance of blood clots.
  • Do not drive a car until you have complete mobility with arms 2-6 weeks.
  • Avoid strenuous activity for 2-6 weeks. Gradually increase the level of activity as tolerated.
  • Avoid lifting anything heavier than 5 pounds for 2 weeks.
  • Return to their social activities and work in 2-4 weeks (if not require effort).
  • Limit your walking and stretching exercises until your energy back to previous levels.
